Once an embargo set by the studio on publishing reviews for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" expired 1 2, reviews by TORn staffers Garfeimao, Calisuri, and MrCere were posted.

In the following days, TORn was referenced by other online sites discussing reviews from across the net including:

Geeks are Sexy website posted "nine ideas for biding your time before The Hobbit hits the theater." One of the nine ways was:

"Troll theonering.net and thehobbitblog.com. Remember those stills you saw eight months ago? Or that rumor you heard when you were just getting the casting news? Following the breadcrumbs (or crumbs of lambas) back to the source can be a great way to bide your time. Plus you can watch all the trailers and special features, as well. Not to mention hear the songs."

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Party Premiere Events | November, 2012

Numerous websites and news media referenced or discussed TORn in connection with the New Zealand World Premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey including:

  • New Zealand travel tour hosted by TORn
  • Pre-premiere costume party at which Peter Jackson, Elijah Wood and numerous other people connected to the movie appeared
  • TORn's coverage of the Red Carpet event and the film's premiere showing
  • Reviews and observations written by TORn staffers who attended the world premiere showing

How The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Changed Movies Forever | November, 2012

Counting from 1 to 10, IGN listed 10 ways that the LOTR movies "kickstarted an evolution of the movies that we can really only truly appreciate with the benefit of hindsight." Number 10 (the last entry in the article) was:

''Amateur film blogs had just started to become credible around the time The Fellowship Of The Ring started shooting, but Jackson and New Line embraced internet journalism like no other. In anticipation of the upcoming premiere party for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the Culture section of The Dominion Post interviewed Tehanu who recapped the general history of TORn and discussed its importance and contribution to fan culture.

TORn's Hobbit Theater Cheat Sheet | November, 2012

In the week leading up to sale of tickets for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, TORn created a Complete Listing of Theaters Showing Hobbit – HFR 3D, IMAX 3D, IMAX, Dolby Atmos. Other websites covering the sale of tickets and the various formats the movie would be shown in linked to TORn's Cheat Sheet, including Wired and Fandango. Fandango also mentioned TORn in their article, "10 Things to Check Out Before 'The Hobbit' Tickets Go On Sale Tomorrow," saying, "There's plenty more Hobbit tidbits out there to help you pass the time, including the official J.R.R. Tolkein Fansite, TheOneRing.Net."

The 25 Most Devoted Fan Bases | October, 2012

TORn was listed as "the main fan site" for LOTR fans in a vulture.com article about the 25 most devoted fans of entertainment. The article also said that Peter Jackson "again work(ed) with TheOneRing.net to supply fans tidbits and updates." Additionally, Tehanu was interviewed in a "Portrait of An Influential Fan."

Lord of the Rings Fans Celebrate The Hobbit's 75th Anniversary at TheOneRing.net's Annual Picnic | September 2012

LA Weekly reported on TORn's annual California event to celebrate Frodo's and Bilbo's birthday - and for 2012, the 75th Anniversary of the publication of The Hobbit. The early genesis of the site and fans' expectations for The Hobbit movies were also discussed.

TORn Staff Analysis of "The Hobbit" Movie Promotional Images | July & Sept, 2012

TORn's analysis of Hobbit trailer #2 was included (along with Entertainment Weekly, Time Entertainment, MTV, Rolling Stone, and others) in TVNZ's list of "world media [that] have seized on similarities between Sir Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy and his second trailer for the first Hobbit film."

After TORn staff analyzed a series of Hobbit movie promotional images featured on Entertainment Weekly, that site included the article in their Tumblr feed saying, "Way cool, guys!"

CinemaCon 10 Minute Preview of The Hobbit in 48 fps | April, 2012

In response to extensive negative press and reaction to the preview, 3 TORn tweeted:

"I wonder what Twitter would have said about sound when it was introduced to talking pictures. #Hobbit #48fps"

This tweet got picked up by writers covering the news. There were three different versions of write-ups that referred to TORn. Each of these versions were carried by many sites. Interestingly, the name Tolkien was misspelled in all versions. Below are links to examples of each of the three versions.
